In this 3 day workshop we will be paying attention to the little things! We will take short walks on the wonderful grounds at Sorrento Centre gathering some of the little things that catch our eye and using simple marks to record what we see. Interesting rocks, pebbles, feathers, leaves , flowers seedheads or other treasures are all possible starting places for our explorations. Students will create a personal collection of found objects and record their treasures and ideasprimarily on paper. Techniques will include drawing, mark making and print in several forms. We will create a selection of papers and use them for simple handmade books that will be a personal record of your time.
Students may like to explore some of these processes on fabric alongside their work on paper.

Catherine lives and works in Gibsons, B.C. and draws inspiration from the natural world, her travels and the people she meets along the way. Stories, legends and the history of people, place and culture are the creative raw materials for themed exhibitions worldwide.
Catherine’s work is developed through painting, drawing and collage in sketchbooks. This careful planning and exploration of ideas allows a more liberated and intuitive approach when it comes to fabric, paint and mixed media techniques. She works on paper and fabric with discharge, dyeing, drawing, painting and printing. Textile pieces are thendensely quilted either by hand or machine and often both. The traditional embellishments of buttons are a common feature, as are more innovative concepts on fabric like paint or pen and ink.
Catherine has exhibited in North America and Europe individually and as a member of SiX and is one third of thr3fold journal, “the journal of creative vision” and various pieces tour Europe on an ongoing basis. Teaching forms part of her daily life, with workshops in locations around the world, she also offers “ local” workshops in patchwork and quilting techniques, sketchbooks and journaling, life drawing, design and other passions.
