Associates help with a great many tasks around our campus as we prepare for the winter season. We will spend some time in reflection on the beauty and abundance of the world around us, and our relationship with Mother Earth.
We welcome our associates to join us for a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend on the campus of the Sorrento Centre!
Join Secwepemc knowledge holder Kenthen Thomas for Associates’ Thanksgiving Weekend at the Sorrento Centre. Some words from Kenthen: "Weytk, my name is Kenthen Thomas from the Secwepemc’ulucw (spread out people of the Shuswap). My kye7e’s and Sle7e’s are Dr. Mary Thomas, Mark Thomas, Herbie and Vera Johnny. I am of Secwepemc and Syilx descent. My father and mother are Phyllis and Gerry Thomas. I have a beautiful son and his name is Susep Soulle. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree from the Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP) at the University of British Columbia."
Also on the Thanksgiving Weekend: environmental educator Brenda Melnychuk, a member of the Adams River Salmon Society, will give you a guided visit throughout the Sorrento Centre campus and waterfront.
Make your plans today to join us at Thanksgiving! Our Associates are our most valued volunteers - women, children, youth and men who care deeply about our Centre, and help us to live into our mission as a “gathering place for all”. Associates (who pay a modest annual fee) live and eat for free over Thanksgiving.
