LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE AND ADVENTURE PROGRAM
with Daryl Drozda & Jason Wood
LEAP, the Leadership, Experience and Adventure Program, is a two-week course for youth ages 15 and 16. LEAP participants live, learn, work, and play together, forming a close-knit group within the larger community of Sorrento Centre. LEAP fosters personal, spiritual, and professional growth in leadership skills and work experience. Participants will be involved in a variety of fresh, exciting spiritual practices and engaging workshops and activities.
LEAP includes a mid-program camping retreat off site, as well as daily free time opportunities to relax and to enjoy beautiful Sorrento Centre. While intensive and challenging, LEAP is also a lot of fun, and a potentially life-changing experience.
Ideal for those looking to volunteer or work at Sorrento Centre or a similar organization in the future, LEAP provides an opportunity much more rewarding than the average summer camp.
DARYL DROZDA has a diploma in Sport Event Management from Thompson Rivers University and is currently a third-year student in the Bachelor of General Studies program at Thompson Rivers University—Open Learning. Daryl lives in Savona, British Columbia, just outside Kamloops, and works at Thompson Rivers University with the office of University Advancement.
Daryl graduated from LEAP over ten years ago and has worked two summers at Sorrento Centre as part of the Summer Youth Staff. Daryl’s interests include yoga, wide games, pizza, practicing the attitude of gratitude, and Harry Potter. This is her third summer co-leading LEAP.
Jason Wood is currently a youth leader at St. Laurence in Coquitlam and studying his Masters of Divinity at Vancouver School of Theology. Before hitting the books, he worked as an urban farmer for seven years, and lived with an intentional community called Servants, practicing hospitality and building community in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. He enjoys reading, making music, writing songs, getting outside, Bollywood dancing, and organizing around climate/ecological justice.
This is his first year leading the LEAP program, and he's excited about getting to invest in youth this way!
