Overview of Workshops:

Everyone will get to take both workshops offered by each instructor, for a total of 4 workshops during the Kampulele. Class sizes will be limited to a maximum of 35 participants.

Tina Hebner:

  1. Picking the Blues:
We’ll take a 12 bar blues progression and play it fingerstyle. We’ll learn a few different picking styles and some extra techniques that will help you play the blues progression the way that you want to…and you’ll be able to use the tools you learn with other songs too!
  2. Feel the rhythm: Strum patterns explained:
We’ll start with the basics and move up from there so that you can see how a strum pattern fits into 4/4 or 3/4 time signatures.

 Guido Heistek:

  1. Chord Melody from the Start - Beginner
Learn the art of playing chords and melody at the same time. It's like magic! We'll take a simple tune and create a beautiful solo ukulele arrangement of it.
  2. Stretching Out with Chord Melody - Intermediate
Learn a swinging solo jazz uke arrangement to a tune like "Ain't Misbehavin" or "Paper Moon". We'll look at chord shapes up the neck and right and left hand techniques that make your arrangements POP! If you love Lyle Ritz or Herb Ohta Sr. this is the workshop for you!

Update No.1 (emailed 25 August 2021)
Important Requirement !

We are only about 2 weeks away from our Kampulele at Sorrento Centre. As we're sure you are aware, the B.C. Provincial Covid Rules have once again been tightened up. What this means to our Kampulele is that in our indoor classes, which will be less than 50 people, we will all be required to wear masks. In the interest of everyone's health and safety, we are requiring that only fully vaccinated people, who are feeling well and have not been exposed to anyone with Covid, attend the Kampulele. At registration at the Kampulele you will be asked to show your vaccination card which shows that you have received the two Covid vaccines. If you cannot show that card, you cannot be admitted to the Kampulele. We understand that this is a new requirement and if you choose to cancel your attendance at the Kampulele, you can do so now and receive a full refund. To cancel, send an email to leadingedgewellness@yahoo.com and request your refund by August 31, 2021. After this date our regular refund policy will once again apply. There will be no refunds given at the time of registration at the Kampulele.

More Important Reminders:

  1. Meals:
Most of you have made your decision about your meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and have either pre-ordered and prepaid the Sorrento Centre for the meals they offer or you have decided to bring your own food. It is important that everyone understands that the deadline for ordering the meal package with Sorrento Centre is Sunday, August 29, 2021.
Call Sorrento Centre at 1-250-675-2421 or 1-866-694-2409 to make arrangements for your meal package.
  2. Refreshment Stations:
We will all have access to make Tea and Coffee throughout the weekend. There are coffee and tea stations with coffee pods and carafes in the Caritas Lounge upstairs as well as the lower Caritas Kitchenette. There is also drinking water available which is drinkable city tap water. The Richardson Lounge and Conference Room also have coffee and tea stations with carafes and coffee pods for our use.

It's a good idea to bring your own refillable water bottle and coffee mug.
