The organizers of the Harambee Cultural Society annual festival have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event - with the 2021 dates set for June 26 to July 3, 2021. Here is a note from the organizing committee:

"We have made the difficult decision to cancel Harambee Summer Festival 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. It is in the utmost of concern for each of you that we feel this is the right action to take. It is expected that limits to travel and social gathering will continue to impact our daily lives and events so that this illness can be controlled. We do not want to risk any of our families nor the community of Sorrento. Please know that our hearts ache at the thought of not embracing you and celebrating our 25th year milestone. Each of you holds the resilience and determination that will bring us through to 2021 when we will be able to acknowledge our incredible Harambee Summer Festival once again!"

Since the origins of Harambee with two families camping together in 1996, we have strived to place the education and happiness of children squarely at the centre of our efforts. We do this by cultivating a welcoming environment for transracial families of African diaspora heritage during our week long summer festival.
