Associates Work & Study Week: Food, Farming, and the Future of food production
with Dan Meakes
It is springtime at Sorrento Centre and during Associates week we will work and reflect about what we need, how we grow it, and food justice. From Amos till now human beings have struggled with the land, food production, and justice. We will plant crops at the Centre’s farm that will later feed those who visit this place. During our sessions we will look at the history of our faith concerning food and justice. We will outline some of the current issues of farming and the environment and how these issues challenge Christian leadership. There will be physical work for persons of all abilities as we help Sorrento Centre prepare for the summer season. Worship, work, and learning will be integrated. This course will involve a lot of group activities including working as teams, discussing our own practices, and worshiping together. Plan to get dirty and bring your best humour and favourite recipes for vegetables.
