Welcome, Farmer Gwen! The Sorrento Centre welcomes Gwen Dell'Anno as our new farm manager. Gwen joins the senior staff team with key responsibility for managing our eight-acre natural farm. About three acres are the fields, and the rest includes a forest protected as a bird habitat, an orchard, a heritage barn (awaiting restoration) and a log cabin (the home of Executive Director Michael Shapcott and Branch Manager Phoebe). Farmer Gwen follows in the furrows of Dan Meakes. Farmer Dan took on farm stewardship over the past year, bring new growth and great abundance to the natural farm. Gwen grew up on a farm and has a strong background in agriculture, as well as extensive experience in the non-profit sector. In addition to ensuring an abundance of produce from the Sorrento Centre farm, and building on the successes achieved by Dan in 2019, Gwen will be working with our food services manager and others to improve the flow of produce from field to kitchen. She will supervise the successful completion of the new greenhouse at the farm and manage the ongoing operation of the greenhouse on the main campus, and ensure a wide distribution of farm produce to selected community groups. Gwen will be working with others on our staff team to ensure effective stewardship of the grounds of our main campus and the farm.
