The first week at the Sorrento Centre of the New Year has been a time of preparing - preparing to welcome the thousands of people who will come onto our main campus and our natural farm during 2019. We are already starting to take reservations for some of our events in 2019 - and the calendar is becoming more and more robust. Calls and emails are whizzing back and forth with workshop leaders and facilitators - planning their contributions to the life of our Centre. At a lengthy budget meeting on Friday morning, we signed off on plans for revenues and expenses in the coming year. The good news, on the income statement front, is that the Sorrento Centre has posted a surplus at the end of 2016 and again in 2017, and we are on track (subject to the final determination by our accountants in the coming days) for a similarly healthy 2018. We did this while also paying down debt and completing necessary capital repairs around the campus. Also this week, we reviewed staffing and programming plans for 2019. The first couple of weeks of 2019 offer Sorrento Centre staff a time to look back at 2018 to note our successes, identify gaps and issues - and lay the foundation for a memorable 2019. This year is our 56 anniversary - and we will be launching plans in the spring for a big campaign to bring the Sorrento Centre to our 60th birthday in 2023. The picture above was taken on January 5, 2019, at the head of the path leading through the forest on the north-east end of our main campus. Even as we are preparing to welcome you, we invite you to prepare to join us in 2019!
