Before we know it our kitchen will be fragrant with the smell of dozens of Christmas turkeys and fixings in the oven. We are excited to work alongside the good people of the three Rotary clubs in Salmon Arm, along with First United Church and Broadview Free Church as they distribute turkey meals with all the fixings to 600 or so people who may otherwise not have Christmas dinner. The need is huge and what better way to spread the joy and love of Christmas than with hot meals delivered to the door.

Despite significant supply change interruptions, our kitchen manager, Karrie, was able to acquire enough turkeys to allow us to be part of this caring outreach to our neighbours in need. She was able to negotiate some reduction in price, but the cost is high. We are so very grateful for the generous donations made by kind folks like you that will allow us to supplement so that many families will have warm full bellies and warm full hearts on Christmas day. Karrie and her team will be putting in long hours stuffing and basting and preparing the birds, and trimming. Can’t you just smell it? Can’t you feel the love?

The Sorrento Centre kitchen crew is also preparing an extra-special turkey and all the trimmings Christmas dinner for the dozens of tenants who have just moved in the last couple of weeks into Salmon Arm’s newest housing. And our hard-working team will continue to send out dozens of daily breakfasts, lunches and dinners to people who are hungry in our region. Charles Dickens, in his famous story The Christmas Carol, said it best about this season: "It is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices.”

On behalf of all the staff of the Sorrento Centre, we are grateful to be able to share in practical ways this special time of the year.
