From Surrey, seventeen year old Ezekiel joined the Sorrento Centre family as part of our summer youth staff team, working with the children this summer. He can be seen running around on the playing fields, facilitating games and leading physical activities and encouraging children to try their best no matter what.
He is also a basketball fanatic and is often on our courts on his own and sometimes even teaching a few lessons to kids or maybe showing off his cool tricks and skills. But he is very modest about how good he actually is, and often will allow the kids to win, because nothing makes Ezekiel happier than seeing others be happy around him.
2022 is his second time coming to Sorrento Centre and Ezekiel already has plans to come back. He says he would really like to come back next year and just hang out and relax. Not a surprise, who doesn't love going to the beach with the other young people, swimming in the Shuswap lake, and the campfires during sunset hour?
“Summer’s pretty awesome, I met some new folks, I've been having fun and taking care of kids, that's pretty fun!”
When asked about what he wants others to know about Sorrento Centre he had this to say “Its a fun place to be, and you can make lots of friends too and have fun! That's one of the key points, coming here and having fun... it gets hot here and the beach is right down there so swimming all day or however long you want it's fun”.
His advice to others that want to join summer youth staff next year, “make sure you pack tank tops and shorts, it's hot!”
We look forward to welcoming this young man again whether back on staff or as a guest, enjoying the lake and all that Sorrento Centre has to offer!
