A new report on housing insecurity in the Shuswap is making its way to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District. CSRD commissioned Urbanics Consultants from Vancouver to do a housing needs assessment for our region, which includes small communities and lots of rural regions. While many still think that housing concerns and homelessness are strictly big city issues, the Urbanics report provides some insights into local dimensions of the housing crisis, including issues affecting seniors, low-income families and seasonal workers.
The Sorrento Centre is a founding member of the South Shuswap Housing Society, which includes representation from the Chamber of Commerce, the local food bank, the South Shuswap Health Services Society and St Mary's Anglican / United Church.
The housing society is building partnerships for housing solutions and will be hosting events in the fall of 2020.
Stay tuned for more details.
